Construction and Infrastructure Senior Associate/Special Counsel (Front-end and/or Back-end), 7+ years' PAE

A great opportunity exists for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel level lawyer to join our Construction and Infrastructure team.

While predominantly focused on 'back-end' dispute resolution, in this role you will be immediately exposed to 'top-tier' type litigation and arbitration on major projects involving major participants in the construction and infrastructure space, along with adjudications and judicial reviews under the Security of Payment Act.

The ideal candidate will be a nimble thinker who is committed to strive for excellence in a collegiate team environment, while at the same time keen to build on existing networks and develop their own practice with the strong and ongoing support of the Principal Lawyer and Head of Construction and Infrastructure.

Commercial and Corporate Lawyer, 1 to 2 years' PAE

We have an excellent opportunity for a lawyer to join our established Commercial and Corporate team.

Our clients are highly regarded companies and groups across various industries, including IT, e-commerce, retail and transport.

We are seeking a lawyer with 1 to 2 years’ experience post admission. You will ideally have some experience with the Privacy Act, Australian Consumer Law, the PPSR regime, IP rights registration, enforcement and licensing, sale of businesses, shareholders agreements, partnerships of trusts and company secretarial work.

The successful candidate must have strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills. While not essential, experience in working with online businesses and IP issues is a plus.

Commercial Litigation Senior Lawyer, 7+ years' PAE

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced commercial litigation lawyer with approximately 7+ years’ experience, who has the skills necessary to succeed in a busy and diverse practice.

Ideally, you will have had exposure to a range of areas, including the rules of civil procedure in all major courts, the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), partnership / shareholder disputes, insolvency (corporate and personal), property / lease disputes (including retail leases), competition and consumer law (including the ACL), professional indemnity, defamation and insurance coverage disputes.

You will have your own referral network and the ability to bring in at least some of the clients for whom you will be working. We are looking for someone who is as comfortable working autonomously as well as in a team environment, as the cases vary in size and complexity.

Owners Corporation Lawyer, 4+ years' PAE

As our property and general litigation practices continue to grow, there is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic lawyer to join our Owners Corporation practice.

KCL Law focuses on having a team of legal experts with a wealth of industry and professional experience, forming partnerships with our clients and building long-term relationships with them. In the last three years, we have successfully built a practice within the Owners Corporation industry, primarily working for owners corporations and their managers. We are now looking for an experienced lawyer to synergise and continue our success in this area.

You will have matter management responsibility and substantial experience in litigation advice, debt recovery and compliance, as well as leasing, licencing, common property and subdivisions. You will have at least a small referral network and the initiative to continually build upon this. We are looking for someone who is as comfortable working autonomously, as well as in a team environment.

Please note, that a strong knowledge of the Owners Corporations Act is required for this position.

Legal Secretary  Banking and Finance

An exciting opportunity exists for a capable and experienced legal secretary to join our firm supporting three lawyers within our Banking and Finance team, as well as providing administrative assistance across the firm when required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • taking instructions and completing tasks with minimal assistance;
  • ensuring work is accurate and on time;
  • file management;
  • dictaphone typing including correspondence and file notes;
  • diary management and control of deadlines;
  • client liaison;
  • filing and service of documents;
  • monthly billing using Affinity practice management system;
  • entering client data into Affinity; and
  • general administrative tasks, such as photocopying, opening/closing files and binding documents.

We are looking for an experienced secretary with at least 3 years’ experience who is highly self-motivated, has a professional telephone manner and is comfortable in dealing with clients and taking accurate instructions.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, attention-to-detail and exceptional time management skills. A team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills are a must.

Department Assistant/Paralegal Employment Law

An exciting opportunity exists for a law student with a strong interest in employment law to join our firm on a casual basis.

The firm’s Employment and Workplace Relations team provides advice to a wide range of businesses on a variety of matters, including employment contracts, employment-related litigation, Fair Work Ombudsman investigations and claims and unfair dismissals.  

In this position, you will work under the guidance of the lawyers in the team and be mentored on a range of employment law matters. The successful candidate must be studying law and have a strong academic transcript. Previous Seasonal Clerkship experience is an advantage.

Your duties will include:

  • supporting the legal secretary and lawyers in the team;
  • file management;
  • conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda;
  • preparing first drafts of legal advices;
  • entering client data into Affinity;
  • opening and closing files;
  • scheduling appointments and meetings as necessary; and
  • general administrative tasks including photocopying, opening/closing files and binding documents.
